Our Shade Tree Mahogany and Cypress Porch Swing is classic and comfortable, with a seat that curves beneath you and a back that flows behind you to provide maximum comfort and support. Seat and back slats are alternating rich Mahogany and lighter Cypress for an eye catching design.  To ensure durability and a classic appearance, the Shade Tree Mahogany and Cypress Swing features stainless steel bolts and screws, brass fittings in the arms (to protect the wood from being damaged by the hanging chain) and wood plugged screw holes to provide smooth surfaces.  Seat and back braces are substantial, finished out to 1 ½ inches. 3/8 inch stainless steel carriage bolts are used to secure the back and the seat of the swing as well as to connect the hanging chain. 

Timeless and traditional, Mahogany is a hardwood and has a beautiful grain and a reddish brown color, which darkens over time.  It is also very durable, insect and rot resistant and is regarded by many as the premiere wood for making fine furniture. If left natural it will weather to a light silvery gray. The Cypress is durable and extremely resistant to harsh weather conditions, insects, and fungus.  It's colors vary from shades of light to dark honey.  If left outdoors unfinished, it will become a light pewter color over time.   We recommend that the swing be sealed with oil or a clear coat to show off the rich grain and color.  The clear coat is sprayed on, not brushed, for a smooth even surface and will slightly darken the wood's natural color, seal out moisture and provide a smooth surface to wipe clean.   If not placed in direct sunlight, it will last a couple of years before any maintenance is needed.  Check regularly for fading or yellowing and refinish if desired.  The oil finish seals and protects while providing a non-glossy surface to show off the wood grain.  This is the best option if the swing is placed in direct sunlight or exposed to salt air.  You may reapply oil as needed.  Please note: The clear coat finish selection is intended for placement on covered patios and porches rather than direct sunlight.  We recommend that you periodically wash your swing using mild soap and water to remove dirt or stains.
